Be Careful and Be Ready

Author's Note: I wrote this piece to describe the theme/ main idea the book Only the Good Spy Young, written by Ally Carter. In this piece I have been trying to show more of sentence fluency and voice.

Kids playing in the park, adults running after their dogs at the Dog Park, and employees chasing after their clients to give the right amount of change are all examples of innocent people with a typical life.   However, the girls from the Gallagher Academy have no normal life as a spy in training. In the book, Only The Good Spy Young, by Ally Carter, the author clearly displays the theme, “be careful, and be ready.”

“Be yourself” is one of the main themes in these books.  Cammie is getting chased and almost got kidnapped by the Circle Of Cavan.  Cammie needs to be herself because part of her personality is bold and she needs to prove this as she fights with the “Circle of Cavan”.  Her friends are also in need of being themselves because they need to embrace that feature of their personalities as well to help Cammie through these tough times. In the book Cammie says that she needs to embrace her braveness and her boldness as they fight together in class or even off school campus.

When the well-known Gallagher Girls are off of the school campus they need to be just as cautious as they are when they are at school; maybe even more.  These girls are very special because they know how to do many things that a spy teenage girl would much more likely know how to do than a normal teenage girl. That means that they need to be careful when off of school campus because whenever they are going off of school campus it is for one of two reasons:  1. Covert Operations Assignment with the rest of the junior Cove Ops (Covert Operations) class, or 2. They are sneaking out for a strange reason without adult permission.  Off of school campus is a big deal for these small town girls that are used to a mansion with a lot of spy-in-training girls. This is also a big deal because these girls don’t know anyone else besides their teachers and classmates.  This means that the girls could be surprised by anyone, who could do anything to them.

Talking about anyone in the town of Roseville who can do anything is also like being ready. Any girl, including Gallagher girls, all need to be ready whenever they are off school campus and not with an adult, because like stated before in the book, “Anything can happen when you are by yourself or even with others.”   Even Cammie Morgan, “The Chameleon,” can be seen, spotted and targeted when she is hiding. This proves that everyone, especially Gallagher girls, needs to be ready when they are off school campus, and particularly when they are by themselves.

In this book, they Gallagher girls do need to be ready for anything, just like an average human. I think this book relates to life because when you are any age, anybody can surprise you and do anything. Just like in the Gallagher girls series everybody needs to take caution with every move.

Taking into consideration all of the different themes that could be possible in this book, the main themes are be ready and be careful.  Remember whenever you are doing something dangerous or different from your lifestyle to be ready and be careful.

No More Words

Authors Note: This piece is a prediction to the 3:15 story we read in class. Many people did different this because we were asked to create a prediction on what would happen to Cody. 

Cody walked over to the window in the house. His eyes glared out to the window as he was shocked by bitter wetness waiting for him out side...He thought that he was in the middle of a big black hole, like the world was over. His mind and thoughts had all flashed to the thought of, “Why did I need to steal that hook?” He was very disappointed and mad at himself and could not get the thought out of his head.

As he continued to stare in awe out the window he was getting more and more infuriated....suddenly he fell to the ground. In the next moment he felt flabbergasted as a body was getting strangely  dragged across the cold, hard ground. The next moment he had come to make an assumption that Clarence was not dead and he was just very heavily asleep. At this point Cody was panicking and pacing back and forth through the small wooden house in the woods, wondering what was happening to Clarence’s body.

Before long, Cody realized his mistake was not the right choice. Unfortunately,  his thought was just a little bit too late. Because of Clarence’s body getting moved, Cody’s has decided to admit his apologies out loud for the entire woods to hear. Right in front of the body, Cody says “I am so very sorry for what I have done, therefore I am going to gently place the hook next to, or in, Clarence’s coffin.”  After Cody takes the biggest sigh in history he hears a voice coming from the kitchen. Almost like an echo that he must know where it is coming from.

Heading in that direction, Cody is slowly, stealthily creeping in towards the kitchen where the voice is coming from. When he arrives there he is surprised to see, what looked like a real human being. “ If you are so sorry, Cody, why did you need to take the hook in the first place?” Cody suddenly went blank with no more words to reply with.

Authors Note: These are my character analysis bio poems written about Cammie Morgan. The difference in the different poems is subtle but meaningful. Throughout the book Cammie really does make a durastic change between a Gallagher girl and almost a normal school girl.

Imagine Being a Founding Father

Authors Note:  This piece is about the founding fathers and all of the work and sacrifices they have made to create this free country.

Imagine you are a founding father. Imagine coming to a completely new country and leaving your home and family. Think about what it must have felt like to start your life over in a completely different place.

Our founding fathers worked hard to make our country safe. They came to America to create a community, build houses and build more shelters for all of the citizens.  The founding fathers are very special men who worked hard for our country.  I would want to say, “thank you” for having the courage to leave their home country to set out for a country they knew nothing about.

John Jay, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin, and James Madison are obviously men who wanted to explore and find a new home.  They were all men who wanted to create a new community.  They were men who had a purpose in mind, and did what they needed to do to make their new country a better place than the country they came from.

Many people moved to this new country to have freedom of religion.  They were forced to tolerate the rules of the Church in England, even if they didn't have the same beliefs. They wanted to find a place where they could worship as they pleased. This was such a strong desire that they were willing to pick up and move, leaving their old life behind.

Many people don’t appreciate the freedom that they have in America. Many people have fought battles and many lives have been lost to preserve our freedom in America.  We need to be thankful for the country we live in and the people who have created it.

Taking into consideration all of the people who have helped this country become what it is, the seven founding fathers are definitely the most important. When you think about the founding fathers, make sure that you remember all of the courage they had and the sacrifices they made for this country.

Seven Little Indian Boys!

Author's note: In this piece is included a poem from the book "And Then There Were None". In this poem it describes how each one of the deaths happened until none of the 10 people are alive anymore. 

One of the first deaths in my murder mystery

Is when Mrs.Rodger's over slept herself. This book

Is all about 10 people coming to this island of the coast of Devon and getting killed all 1 by 1. The main death I am focusing on right now is the death of Mr.Rodger's.  This death

Was caused because of the plot of this peculiar book.

The cause of this event is because of all of the other character and the paranormal poem Vera Claythorne

(one of the main characters) found lying on her bed one night:

Ten little Indian boys went out to dine,

One choked his little self and then there were nine.

Nine little Indian boys sat up very late,

One over slept himself and then there were eight.

Eight little Indian boys on the coast of Devon,

One said he'd stay there and then there were seven.

Seven little Indian boys chopping up stick,

One chopped himself in halves and then there were six.

Six little Indian boys playing with a hive,

A bumblebee stung one and then there were five.

Five little Indian boys going in for law,

One got in Chancery and then there were four.

Four little Indian boys went out to sea,

A red herring ate one and then there were three.

Three little Indian boys walking in a zoo,

A bear hugged one and then there were two.

Two little Indian boys sitting in the sun,

One frizzled up and then there was one.

One little Indian boy left all alone;

He went and hanged himself and then there were none.

All of the deaths in this book have been following this pattern (with a few logical exceptions).  The death we are focusing on is one of the most important because of the chopping up sticks.

This death takes place while Rodger's is chopping up sticks. Next, the killer sneaks up, stealthily  behind him and nearly chops him in half with another axe while Rodger's was in the little wooden chopping shack. The effect of this event is another death following right after it and all of the other character being shocked and sad he was murdered.   If you want to find out exactly how the next murder takes place you will just have find out your self.

I think this book is not related to any real life situation....I beleive in this thought so highly because if you think hard enough you can realize that you will never actually be invited to an island just to get killed in a week. It also has a slight relation to the The Hunger Games.  I find this because they are both basically just a killing game...My thoughts of the relationship are very simple. 1) They are both a killing game and  2) They all have their different ways of surviving (until they do get killed) 3)


Authors Note: This was a little snip of cause and effect. The book is called And Then There Were None written by Agatha Christie. At first I had no interest in this book but then, I just couldn't put the book down. I realized it was all about cause and effect.

Zach or Josh?

Authors Note: This piece is about conflicts and the resolution in the book Cross My Heart Hope to Spy written by Ally Carter. 

In the book Cross My Heart Hope to Spy, there are many conflicts with Cammie, the main character, and her mom; but the main conflict is Cammie trying to decide which boy she likes more. She is having a hard time because both of the boys, Josh and Zach, have wonderful qualities and characteristics that Cammie loves. The main conflict in the book is person vs. person, but Cammie cannot find the answers until the end of the book. 

While reading this book you can really tell that Cammie likes both of these guys, and is having a very hard time choosing between Zach and Josh. Cammie could easily pick one guy over another, but she is giving them more than one chance; like having dinner another time, or studying together, or even just walking around town. 

 The conflict was resolved in the book when Cammie’s mom had figured out about her sneaking off of campus and seeing Josh at least three times a week.  Later in the book Zach had come, and was being friendlier to Cammie and felt bad that she couldn’t be with Josh anymore. So she realized that Zach really liked her and wanted her in his life.  The conflict ended when Cammie realized that Zach was the one for her, and that she didn’t need to escape school to find a boyfriend.

This conflict reminds me a lot of the book Trading Faces because in this book the main character has to make a big decision, just like Cammie does in this book. In these books,  the main characters have a very hard time choosing between their two decisions.

The Big Catastrophe!

Authors Note: This piece one of my personal narratives and is about a memory from in fourth grade.  

I jumped up on to the tree stump leading to the actual climbing tree, and there I was, at the start of my journey to the top of the tree.  Minutes later I was at the top of the tree when I had shouted “Mission accomplished!" to Emily. In just a few seconds a big gust of wind had made a big branch hit my back and threw me off the tree. That was when it had started, the day I broke my foot.

"Come on dad! When are we going to be at the hospital?!? You need to drive a little faster...." I said with pain in my voice. He responded by saying "Just a couple of more minutes....we will be there shortly; Just sit tight.”  I closed my eyes and thought of a happy place.  As soon as I opened my eyes I noticed the big blurry red letters that spelled out “Emergency Room”.  My dad had carried me inside the room like I was a baby again cradling my swollen foot.  He set me down in a comfortable chair and went to go check in to the desk.  In less than five minutes I was in a room with a clamp on my finger asking my dad when my mom would be there.  He kept saying she would be here shortly and that everything would turn out to be fine.  I knew it was true I just wasn't entirely convinced yet.  My mom walked in the room quick and fast.  You could see the worry in her eyes.  Just by the look on her face you could tell that she doesn't see her daughter lying in a hospital bed every day.

Right then the doctor rushed in the room with good news, and bad news also. He had told us that I needed to wear a splint for a couple of days until I go to the radiology specialists. They would take an x-ray of my foot to see what happened. Just a week later I was at the radiology offices getting my foot x-rayed and had found out I fractured my foot. The 3 middle metatarsals in my foot were fractured and I would need to be getting a cast in the next week. He made it sound good and told me I would be as good as new in no time at all. 

 Over all there are many things that you could have fun with in the outdoors....and at that time I realized, after that catastrophe...There's no way I am jumping out of another tree again.

I am Number Four!

Author's Note: This piece was written to explain the main parts of the book "I Am Number Four", written by Pittacus Lore.

A 15 year old boy named John Smith has been followed by the mogadorians since he was born. He is also known as ‘Number Four’.   In this book there are 9 aliens in a mad dash trying to develop their legacies before they have to fight the mogadorians.  The mogadorians are another set of aliens that have been angry since the day Johns generation was born.  The beliefs of the mogadorians are that John and his family stole the mogadorians’ planet.  The whole book is about John moving to a new school, creating a new identity and finding new friends; all to run away from the mogadorians.
