Authors note: In this piece my goal was to be
able to pull out as many points of view from the song Someone Like You
by Adele. Throughout the piece I showcased the point of view from Adele, and
her ex-boyfriends point of view.
Jack and Rose from the movie “Titanic”,
Romeo and Juliet written in a play by Shakespeare, and Joanna and Dean in the
movie “Overboard” are all examples of a healthy relationship with the person
you love. To broach the exact opposite of these examples in the song, “Someone like
You”, by Adele, there is an example of a broken relationship. Adele would
really like to see many things happen between her and her ex-boyfriend however,
he would not like to do the same. Many people want to have a healthy relationship
but they have to remember it takes two people!
In my point of view, Adele is desperate
for a new love, but can’t find one different from her past. She would also very
much want her old boyfriend, who is now married, to come back and see how
beautiful she is and to realize how much she still loves him. Adele is
clearly still very sad and lonely now after her break up. Adele also didn’t
think before she said when she broke up with him. Obviously she didn’t
comprehend what life would be like without him. Now she is trying too hard at
something that will most likely never happen.
Another point of view would be the way
Adele’s ex-boyfriend sees it; he would say that he doesn’t really care for
Adele anymore or that he is happily married now. Although we once had a
“thing” it is over now and we can’t change that. I really care about my wife
and I give thanks to you for wishing me with the best. I don’t really want to
leave my current marriage for nothing, leaving a wife is a big deal I would be
devastated if I came back to you for nothing, and my wife wouldn’t take me back
again.
Even though the story may sound big and
powerful, there are only so many sides to the story. Adele has said what she
has needed to say and now realizes that she can’t change the past. She also has
to realize that he is happily married and doesn’t really care for her anymore.
It takes two people to have and want a healthy relationship, and obviously
Adele is the only one between the two people that is willing to try.
